TUK TUK Operation Notes

Please read carefully before use!!

Legal Notes:

There was a change to the Motor Vehicle Act on 21 April 2023.
Until then, a vehicle was considered a (real) bicycle if it had a maximum speed of 25 km/h and a maximum drive power of 600 watts.
Our Cargo 500, which we delivered up to this date, complied with the legal requirements.
You received your vehicle with an invoice dated 25.04.2022.
It is therefore a bicycle (licence-free).

With every amendment to the basic law, there is an amendment and an official explanation of the implementation of the amendment.
The explanation of this amendment clearly states that there is „grandfathering“ for vehicles purchased before 21 April 2023.
This means that all bicycles purchased before the deadline can continue to be used as bicycles, even if they do not have the currently valid 250 watt „rated continuous power“ (determined using a different measuring method) entered in the logbook.

This means that you can continue to ride this e-cargo bike as a real bike (without a driving licence, handlebars must be at least 12 years old, if you are carrying passengers on the bike, the handlebars must be at least 16 years old).

As far as the use of the cycle path is concerned, it would be obligatory to use it by bicycle if a cycle path is available and has a minimum width of 2.5 metres.
The special regulations for an electric cargo tricycle are as follows:
Compulsory use if the tricycle has a maximum external width of 1 metre. The Cargo 500 has a maximum external width of 107 cm (including locks).
It is therefore not permitted to use a cycle path with a Cargo 500. The other traffic routes must be used.

General:

Please make sure that you take the charger with you in the TukTuk. The charger and a long power cable are located under the seat. It has already happened that the TukTuk’s battery ran flat and the TukTuk got stranded somewhere and was towed away because of illegal parking. So if the vehicle stops working make sure to park it properly in a normal car parking space or somewhere else and find a way to charge it. We have a mobile power bank that can charge the battery to get it back. Mind the short parking zones! You are responsible for returning the vehicle on time. Everything that happens during your loan period is your responsibility. If the vehicle is towed due to illegal parking, you must ensure that the vehicle is returned to the Schillerplatz location and cover the costs. If you notice any damage to the vehicle, please report it to us. This is the only way we can take care of maintenance.

After returning the vehicle to Schillerplatz please make sure to plug the charger so the next one finds a charged vehicle.
